Props

Silent Sky

Prop: Digital hearing aids.

Show: Silent Sky

Above are examples of resources I used in my research before making these model hearing aids. They are the earliest kinds of digital hearing aids. Below are the resulting props: a hearing aid with a hand held speaker, and one with a headset.  The materials I used were found objects like magnifying glass handle, headbands, and string. The main components; microphone, headset, and battery pack, were made out of a heat activated plastic. Paint and tape provided the final touches. Below the pictures of the props are some examples of them being used in the show on the actor.

Props: Fly spanker, and star work books

Show: Silent Sky

Above is an example of a "fly spanker" (called so both in the play and in real life). It is a small calibrating device that measured the distance to stars according to the brightness and size of the dots, comparative to this device. There were four made for the show. Materials used were plexiglass, wire, glue, tape and paint. Below is an example of the workbooks made for the show. Fifteen of them were fabricated, several had writing on the inside to mimic the tables that would have been in them, and the rest were left unopened. To make them, I used regular notebooks covered in paper mache for texture. Then I painted them, taped the edges and a label on them, and wrote in the center of a few for stage use.

The Arsonists

Above are two slide shows of two fabricated props I created for The Arsonists. The first is a fake goose with a removable leg so an actor could pretend to eat it. It was made out of pink insulating foam. It was cut, then covered in FlexBond, painted, and sealed. The second prop is a puff cigar. I made sleeves that they could be put into to create the more cartoonish look I desired. I molded plastic around the shape of the puff cigar, wrapped it in cord, then again in two layers of tape. The puff cigars could then be replaced as needed.

There are also two pictures of a detonator prop created for the show, the box  part is inspired by an old-school pump TNT detonator. The prop also had wire, and a little explosive part that the actor could use to pretend to set up his detonator for a fire.
