Lexi Mitchell- About the artist
The arts have been a point of interest for me, since the days of grade school. The performing arts caught my eye first through the lens of music. I started playing saxophone and piano, and singing as well. My choir director doubled as the music director for theatre so as I started high school, the two just went hand in hand. Performance was my first love in theatre, but I quickly became integrated into the design side of theatre even by my first show. I was recruited to do props and scenic painting for Happy Days: A New Musical and the rest is history.

Since high school, my love has always been found at the intersection of music, visual arts, and theatre. I rarely perform as an actor, but instead find that creating within the world of the stage engages a deeper part of me. I strive to combine all areas of my world in the most productive and creative way possible. For me, that means learning skills in all types of areas- even ones that are new or scary. It means pushing myself to new limits outside of the arts as well.

Throughout college, I participated in many things that helped me strengthen personal and professional skills. Music, especially playing saxophone, was a great way to work on being a part of a group working together towards a common goal. It tested my creativity and discipline. Boxing in college not only gave me incredible discipline as well- but really forced me to grow in my physical and mental strength. The UW-L boxing team definitely played a huge role in my growth as a young adult. In addition to extracurriculars, I worked with Vector Marketing as both a sales rep and a manager. That job would turn out to be a huge blessing, especially after graduating.

Vector Marketing started off as just a job, a way to pay rent as a college student. I quickly fell in love with the company and the people, which is why I continued working through college as a sales rep and an assistant manager. I was even given the opportunity to run a branch office during the summer of 2018- which was an incredible experience to say the least.

After graduating college, I worked as the sales manager in our division office in Northbrook, Illinois. This was a transition period while I wanted to move on to bigger and better things. This was the time when I took a contract with Celebrity Cruises as entertainment stage staff on one of their ships. I could probably say a lot about the life experience of being on there, especially being on the ship when COVID-19 hit.

While unfortunately, cruise ships have temporarily stopped, I am lucky enough to be back with Vector Marketing. I was promoted to the position of District Manager, running a virtual office for Southeastern Wisconsin. It is kind of like coming home - working for a company that I love with people I love, and it has allowed me the resources to work on my art during this time.

I could probably go on and on about the things that I love to do. At the end of the day, when I ask myself "Why", its always for theatre. In the bigger picture of my life, I see the stage as the canvas that I was meant to paint on. I strive to do everything I can to become a highly skilled artist and a well-rounded person. I believe that through art, music, athletics, and jobs, I am actively becoming a stronger and better person.
